October Is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Greetings Fellow Breeders!

Breast cancer is the most common cancer that women may face in their lifetime. It can occur at any age, but the risk goes up as you get older. Because of certain factors, some women may have a greater chance of having breast cancer than others. Every woman should know about breast cancer and what can be done about it.  And, the good news is that most women can survive breast cancer if it’s found and treated early. A mammogram, the screening test for breast cancer, can help detect breast cancer in its early stages. Therefore, education and awareness are paramount for early detection.

That is the key purpose behind Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a worldwide annual campaign organized by major breast cancer charities every October to increase awareness of the disease and to raise funds for research into its cause, prevention, diagnosis, treatment and cure. The campaign, also, offers information and support to those affected by breast cancer. In the past few decades, supporters have adopted the pink ribbon as an international symbol of breast cancer awareness.

Since 2010, Amaretto has been deeply involved in doing fundraising for various charities and from time to time has released Limited Edition Horses to help raise funds for worthy causes. For our very first fundraiser, the BCA Horses were released in an effort to raise funds for Breast Cancer Awareness. 100% of the proceeds were given directly to Making Strides for Breast Cancer (a campaign to benefit the American Cancer Society).

Our second BCA fundraiser, in 2011, saw the release of another set of Breast Cancer Awareness Horses. Again, 100% of the proceeds were given directly to Making Strides for Breast Cancer.

These horses mark a very important part of Amaretto history and would be a great addition to any collection. They can still, occasionally, be found for sale by breeders in the marketplaces and at auctions.

Additionally, in October of 2013, as part of a set of Awareness eyes that were born onto the grid, we saw random drops of the Breast Cancer Awareness Eye. These eyes CAN be passed on and would look awesome on any of your pink projects!

The American Cancer Society is the leader in the fight to end breast cancer. If you are interested in supporting Breast Cancer Awareness in Second Life, please refer to the Making Strides website: https://makingstridessecondlife.org/

Till next time…BE AWARE & HAPPY BREEDING!
