The online community of Second Life rallies in support of fundraising for Relay for Life ©,March 24,2012: The Second Life Community opened both hearts and pockets to support fundraising efforts to aid Relay for Life© in their Time for a Cure campaign to benefit the American Cancer Society.
A one of a kind Amaretto K-9 and a one of a kind Amaretto Horses designed and distributed by Amaretto Breedables were made available for avid collectors and equine enthusiasts in the virtual world of Second Life. The detailed and interactive horses and K-9s are popular with hobbyists who can enjoy the care and maintenance of the online pets as well as experimentation with breeding of the pets for creative results and new highly coveted and rare colorations. The one of a kind RFL Pixie Yorkie for a Cure K-9 and one of a kind RFL Demon for a Cure Horse were designed specifically for fundraising in response to Relay for Life Time for a Cure. There will be no further release of these designs. As well as the 2 one of a kind horse and K-9 provided by the Amaretto Team, the Amaretto Community donated many of their own horses and K-9s to be auctioned with all proceeds going to Relay for Life.

“As I sat at the auction, watching the passion and commitment of the Amaretto team, I was humbled by what was taking place.” said MamaP Beerbaum, Relay For Life of Second Life Event Chair for 2012. “From the owners, Jaysin and Josaphine Cooperstone, to Avalon Crystal who played auctioneer for over 5 hours, to the entire Amaretto team who were in attendance, to the Amaretto community of breeders and collectors, the generosity was staggering! Each Amaretto community member who donated a horse, bundle, or K-9 told the story of why they had donated. As those stories unfolded it became clear that this community of people understood what Relay was all about. As one of the largest business in Second Life, Amaretto joined Relay For Life in Second Life last year with the release of 4 themed Seasons Of Hope horses, with all proceeds from the sale of those horses going directly to the American Cancer Society. They fully participated in Relay weekend, and as things wound down in 2011, they were already planning how they would participate in 2012. They were one of the first teams to register for Relay 2012, they stepped up immediately to become a Premiere sponsor, and it is obvious that they plan on relaying their hearts out till July!”

    About Amaretto Breedables
Amaretto Breedables is an organization in Second Life (SL), the virtual world available through the internet. It was created by a group of people who thought it would be amazing to have breedable and rideable horses in SL. The site was launched in September 2010 and the Amaretto Horses have been received with great enthusiasm by the SL breedable community. Horses are purchased by SL collectors and bred for their unique traits, with funds periodically donated to Real World charity. In August of 2011 Amaretto Breedables released breedable and interactive K-9s much like the Amaretto Horses. For more information, go to http://amarettobreedables.com

About Relay For Life of Second Life
Relay For Life® is the signature fundraiser of the American Cancer Society. Relay For Life of Second Life (RFL of SL) is an annual activity that takes place in Second Life® in July each year. Volunteers form or join teams to have fun while fundraising and raising awareness from mid-March through mid-July. In July teams build campsites and walk a track, just like in a real world Relay. The main RFL of SL track event this year will take place on July 14-15.

In 2011 Relay For Life of Second Life attracted more than 140 teams with participants from over 90 countries, held over 300 team fundraising events between March and July, and raised over US$375,000 (that’s REAL US dollars) for cancer research and education. The funds raised go to research, advocacy, patient services and programs, with 12-15% going to international projects. Just as in the real world, RFL of SL is an international event.
