The spotlight today, August 19th, is on a United States national observation that celebrates the development of aviation. In 1939, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt issued a proclamation designating the anniversary of Orville Wright’s birthday to be National Aviation Day.

Orville Wright (August 19, 1871 – January 30, 1948) was an aviation pioneer who is best known for inventing the airplane with his brother, Wilbur. Orville piloted the first successful powered, controlled flight on December 17, 1903.

The Wright brothers changed the world. In just a handful of generations, aviation went from pure, pie-in-the-sky speculation to a commonplace reality.

To show esteem for past and present aviators and other individuals involved in the aviation industry, Amaretto released a random drop Aviation Appreciation eye during the month of April 2014.

As part of a 12-month Appreciation series, these eyes could drop from any horse or K9 breeding. Luckily for us now, the eyes are passable!

Where can you go to find a trait you’ve never heard of? The library? Google? Your closet? Nooooooo. The Amaretto Wiki pages! That’s right, Amaretto wiki has almost everything on it you are looking for, complete with pictures.

Each page has a list of certain traits you can scroll through, with the latest entries at the bottom. Click on the trait, and it opens another page If you don’t want to scroll, you can use the search function, which is in the upper right hand corner of each page.

Type in the trait you are looking for, such as Paisley eyes, and up comes a page with links to click to see where that eye is in the Wiki.

Scrolling through the Amaretto Wiki pages can give you ideas on what to look for if you’re doing a project, traits you might have but aren’t sure where they came from, or pictures to show you what is possible that you can drool over. It’s like spending a day at the library going through books crammed with information, but right at your fingertips. Remember, the Wiki is your FRIEND.

That’s why we’ll be traversing the Second Life grid searching for delicious apples when the 23rd AMOC BunKenNestKet Hunt begins on Friday, September 4th at 2 PM! Hunters will have until 10 AM on Sunday, September 6th to pluck some awesome bundles, kennels, nests, or baskets, along with some super Amaretto prizes.

How to host your market or parcel:
Do you have a beautiful sim or market you’d like for breeders to visit? Have a sales area on your parcel in need of more traffic? If so, the AMOC BunKenNestKet hunt can work for you! A pinto horse has a coat color that consists of large patches of white and any other color. Many breeds of horses carry pinto patterns. Pinto coloring, known simply as “coloured” in nations using British English, is the most popular in the United States. While pinto colored horses are not considered as a “breed,” several competing color breed registries have formed to encourage the breeding of pinto colored horses. The word “paint” is sometimes used to describe pinto horses but today, it is specifically used for the American Paint Horse; a pinto colored horse with identifiable American Quarter Horse or Thoroughbred bloodlines.

Archaeologists have found evidence of horses with spotted coat patterns on the Russian steppes before the rise of the Roman Empire. Later, spotted horses were among those brought to the Americas by the Conquistadors. By the 17th century in Europe, spotted horses were quite fashionable, though when the fad ended, large numbers of newly-unsellable horses were shipped to the Americas, some of which were sold while others were simply turned loose to run wild. The color became popular, particularly among Native Americans, and was specifically bred for in the United States, which now has the greatest number of pinto horses in the world.

One of the first traited coats Amaretto introduced was the Pinto, which you could get by breeding any horse with a starter horse or by breeding together two starter horses.
Pintos come in six splashy colors. Even thought they are now considered “Out To Pasture” they can still be bred from existing lines.

They have also used the Pinto in making other special coats.

Even during the dog days of Summer, it can be a dog-eat-dog world. You may have to work like a dog to get the job done!

It is quite amazing how many sayings we have that involve dogs. The word ‘dogged’ literally refers to possessing dog-like qualities, such as persistence, determination, and grit.

Work Like a Dog Day, which is celebrated the first week in August, honors people who put in that extra bit of hard work. This quirky day is inspired by the reputed strong work ethic of canines, especially the American Kennel Club’s working group of dogs.

Working dogs are quick to learn, intelligent, strong, watchful, and alert. Breeds like the German Shepherd and Pembroke Welsh Corgi were developed to gather, herd and protect livestock.
