Say Hello!

Happy Hump Day Fellow Breeders!

World Hello Day on November 21st is an unofficial holiday created to promote world peace through interpersonal communication. In our busy, fast-paced and technology-driven lives, we often forget the importance of a simple greeting that can brighten up the day. Yes, just a simple ‘Hello’.

The purpose of World Hello Day is to encourage communication and dialogue between people of different backgrounds in order to achieve peace and understanding. Since its beginning in 1973, the day has been observed by 180 different countries around the world with over thirty-one Nobel Peace Prize winners and peace activists taking part in it. The message is for world leaders to use communication rather than force to settle conflicts.

How to Celebrate?

Any person can participate in World Hello Day simply by greeting ten people or more. This demonstrates the importance of personal communication for preserving peace. These people can be family and friends, but it is suggested that one finds strangers to greet and talk to.

Here are a few ways to say ‘Hello’ in different languages:

Spanish – Hola

German – Guten Tag

Korean –  Annyeong haseyo

Japanese – Konnichiwa

Hindi – Namaste

Italian – Salve/Ciao

French – Bonjour
