Buckskin is a color of horse (sometimes misunderstood as a breed). Buckskins coloring is a hair coat color referring to a color that resembles certain shades of tanned deerskin. Similar colors in some breeds of dogs are also called buckskin. The horse has a tan or gold colored coat with black points (mane, tail, and lower legs). A buckskin horse can occur in any number of different breeds. At least one parent must carry the cream gene, and not all breeds do.
Amaretto Breedables all begin with the "Starter Coats" that are sold in starter, breeder and rancher packs at the Amaretto Horse stores. When people first started getting Buckskins, they were a prized coat to get, even though they were starters, much like the White Icelandic starters. They added a few more color variations to the Buckskin coat. The Black, Brown, Crème, and Red Buckskin are considered "Starter Coats" however . This coat has been retired, as they do occasionally, but can still be passed along from existing lines. It merely means that it wont drop from any LEs, Charmed or starters put out after it was retired.
Buckskins were also used to make one of the many Twist coats they used to create. From January 5, 2014 until February 5, 2014 you could breed any color of Buckskin and any color of Mustang together for the chance at one of these Buckstang Coats. No other qualifications necessary, just has to be 1 Buckstang and 1 Mustang any color.
The Buckstang Coat DOES have the ability to pass.
The Lucky Eye DOES have the ability to pass. I wonder how many of them are out there? Only Amaretto knows LOL
Happy Breeding!
