    Hues gone wild!

Amaretto has so many beautiful coats! They have generously provided an endless ability to play with the looks of those coats. While there is much to talk about with gleams, lusters, and opals, the focus of this Connection is hues!

First, let us talk about what hues are. Simply, they add color. Coat hue is applied to the body of the horse, while the hair hue is applied to the mane and tail. The effect of the hue can yield some interesting results. The Amaretto Wiki explains quite well what each hue is and what it looks like on a white coat. Here is the link: https://horse.amaretto.wiki/index.php?title=Other_Traits

Now that we have the basics out of the way, we should start doing some side-by-side comparisons. I will be using one coat, and showing several examples of how hues change the effect. The Glacier Crazed Coat Sorrel is a versatile coat with many beautiful results that serve well for this demonstration.

Here is the basic Glacier Crazed Coat Sorrel. The stats are as follows:

Starting with the coat and hair hue teal, the effect seems to highlight what is already there. There is a slight hint of the teal, without it overwhelming the coat with a massive change.

Warmth on the hair, with a bonus of opal on the coat, provides for opportunities of a different color pallet. The warmth causes the lighter blue, at the ears, to change to a teal. The magic really happens as eyes move down towards the saddle and tail, bringing in tones of pink and purple.

On the Glacier Crazed Coat Sorrel, the dramatic impact comes with the hue yellow. The coat changes from being a brilliant blue to a distinctive green.

We all have our favorite traits and want to use them. Using the hues, we can now use a combination of traits to create a cohesive look that is dramatically different than the base coat.

There are a few things to remember with the hues. As you can see from the final image, hues no longer effect the wings and horns. There are a few that are out to pasture, so they may be a little more difficult to find. Also, each coat is different as to the effect. Just because a hue has a dramatic effect on one coat, does not mean it will have the same effect on another. Have fun and give them all a try!
