Alright, everyone, let’s talk about how to use an updater for your horses and bundles. With so many seasoned breeders returning to SL and rediscovering their passion for Amaretto, it’s the perfect time to review the process. Let’s clear up any confusion about the right and wrong ways to update, separating the facts from the myths. The same rules we’re discussing also apply to the updaters for K-9s, ponies, and birds—just remember to adjust the instructions based on the type of breedable you’re working with! For example, instead of bundles, you’ll be updating kennels for K-9s, baskets for ponies, and eggs for birds.
Before You Start
-
Only one updater at a time.
If there’s more than one updater out, it won’t work. If you see a message saying there are two updaters, remove one before continuing. Ignoring this will cause an error. Just touch the updater you’re keeping, wait five seconds, and it’ll reset. -
Pregnant horses are skipped.
The updater won’t touch pregnant horses because updating them could stop the pregnancy. -
Sick horses will be updated, but they’ll still be sick.
If a horse is sick, the updater will still update it, but it won’t heal the horse. You’ll need to heal them separately to bring them back to full health. -
Sim performance matters.
The updater won’t work on a laggy sim. Here’s what to check:- Dilation (how smoothly things run) needs to be above 0.65.
- Region FPS (the speed of the sim) must be above 25.
If these numbers are too low, you’ll get an error saying the sim dilation is too low. Use the sim monitor tool to check your sim stats before updating. Just rez it next to the updater, and it will display the values for you.
How to Update
Single Updater
- Place the updater near the horse you want to update.
- Click the horse, then click the "update" button on the menu.
- Do not pick up the horse or the updater until the update process is finished.
- When it’s done, your horse will have the same settings as before, but now it’s updated!
Bulk Updater
- Place the bulk updater in the middle of your breeding area.
- Click the updater and set any new settings you want for your horses.
- Click the "update horses" button on the menu.
- The updater will try to update all horses in the region that aren’t updated yet. If the sim is running slow, it might only update horses within a 96-meter radius.
- Pregnant horses will be skipped, and sick horses will remain sick after updating.
- Wait until the hover text says "FINISHED" before picking up the updater.
Bundle Updater
-
Here’s how the bundle updater works:
- You can update up to 15 bundles at a time.
- Bundles need to be within 10 meters of the updater.
- Only bundles with "SUCCESSFULL_BUNDLE" in their UUID can be updated.
- Turn on the range indicator to see where to place the bundles (you’ll need particles enabled in your viewer).
- Only bundles version 2.4 or higher can be updated.
-
To update:
- Rez the updater and turn on the "range" option in the menu.
- Place up to 15 bundles inside the range.
- Select "update" from the menu.
- Don’t pick up the bundles or updater until it says "Done."
Once it’s done, you can pick up your updated bundles and repeat the process for more.
Where to Get Updaters
You can grab an updater at any Amaretto store location. Good luck and happy updating!
